The NWTF has developed a new program designed to assist state chapters is directing a portion of their state Wild Turkey Super Fund money back to the local chapter system and into the community. It is called the 5-Star Chapter Program. In addition to state chapter's continuing support for federal and state wildlife agencies initiatives, the program focuses on seven areas. 

The seven criteria for state chapters to attain Five Star Chapter designation are as follows:

  1. Secure the future of hunting by making a commitment to the Hunting Heritage Fund.

  2. Secure the future of hunting by making a commitment to the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance.

  3. Support a wholesome family activity by sponsoring the state/provincial 4-H Shooting Program (minimum of $1,000)

  4. Share the excitement of the outdoors by supporting local chapter Women in the Outdoors® events, Wheelin' Sportsmen events or National Archery in the Schools Program. (minimum of $100 per event).

  5. Make a commitment to the future of our children through the JAKES Program by: 
       *Involving young people in outdoor learning by funding local chapter 
        JAKES events (minimum of $100 per event)
       *Bring the outdoors into the classroom by providing a minimum of one
        JAKES Education Box for each local chapter to distribute to area schools.

  6. Invest in America's youth by making a commitment to a high school scholarship program.
       *Provid funding to each local chapter scholarship (minimum $250)
       *Offer a $1,000 state/provincial academic scholarship.
       *Select a state/provincial winner to be considered for the $10,000
         national scholarship.

  7. Provide continued financial support to the state, provincial and federal wildlife agencies for projects that benefit the wild turkey.

Michigan IS enrolled as a 5-Star Member with National. We Believe this program will be beneficial to us and the recipients. The future of our heritage lies in the hand of future generations. Educating such individuals and FAMILY involvement WILL strengthen what our fore-fathers set out for us.

The six criteria for local chapters to attain Five Star Chapter designation are as follows:

  1. Make a local chapter contribution of $100 or more to The Hunting Heritage Fund, The US Sportsmen's Alliance or The National Shooting Sports Foundation.

  2. Host a Women In The Outdoors® event, JAKES® event, Xtreme JAKES event OR Wheelin' Sportsmen event.

  3. Deliver a NWTF educational box to a local school.

  4. Present a local scholarship to a graduating senior who supports our country's hunting heritage and exhibits a good conservation ethic.

  5. Chapter volunteers agree to participate in one of the following: 4-H Shooting Program, local FFA program, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or other community based youth outreach programs.

  6. Provide continued support to state and federal wildlife agencies for projects that benefit the wild turkey.

Seven Michigan Chapters have met all five criteria in 2007.
