State senator harvests first turkey
(LANSING) - It
is rare that sportsmen claim victory their first time on a
hunt, but state Senator Michelle McManus, R-Lake Leelanau,
took in a rather large prize on her first ever turkey hunt
this past spring.
 "As
soon as I was in the woods the bird started gobbling and
within an hour my guides had called in a beautiful twenty
pound tom with a ten inch beard," McManus said.
Sen. McManus, a lifetime National Rifle
Association member and an avid whitetail deer hunter, was
accompanied by Al Stewart, Upland Game Bird Specialist
with the Department of Natural Resources, and Steve Sharp,
Michigan Senior Regional Director for the NWTF.
"I'm hooked on wild turkey hunting and
I'm looking forward to becoming an active member of the
National Wild Turkey Federation," McManus said.
Sen. McManus made an official
announcement of her successful hunt to her Senate
colleagues during the morning session. She shot the bird
from 17 yards using a Remington 12-gauge semi automatic
shotgun. |
